Defining transnationalism

social morphology • (social formations spanning borders); – a type of consciousness • (dual or multiple identifications); – a mode of cultural reproduction • (production of cultural hybridity and translation); – an avenue of capital • TNCs – big players/ t.nationalism from above vs. little players/ t.nationalism from below; • Low intensity vs high intensity – a site of political action; and – a reconstruction of locality

Defining diaspora

– dispersion (either traumatically or voluntarily and generally across state borders); – homeland orientation (whether to a real or imagined homeland); and – boundary maintenance (the processes whereby group solidarity is mobilized and retained, even accepting that there are counter processes of boundary erosion) (Cohen, 2008).
